Cave Temple
The area is believed to have been inhabited as early as the 7th to 3rd century BC, with cave statues and paintings dating back to the 1st century BC. These artworks were later restored during the 11th, 12th, and 18th centuries AD. The caves once sheltered King Valagamba (Vattagamini Abhaya) during his 14-year exile from the Anuradhapura kingdom. Buddhist monks in Dambulla protected him during this time. After reclaiming his throne in the 1st century BC, the king built a grand rock temple at Dambulla to honor the monks' support.
Sigiriya Sigiriya is a stunning geological and archaeological site located 22 km northeast of Dambulla, in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982, it is one of the seven such sites in the country. Sigiriya lies at the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, which connects the heritage cities of Anuradhapura, Kandy, and Polonnaruwa. Day Excursion to Polonnaruwa

Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. The area is dotted with ancient monasteries spanning over 40 square kilometers and holds immense spiritual value for Buddhists.

Today, Mihinthale is a sacred pilgrimage site, especially during Poson Poya, and features numerous ancient shrines, stupas, and ruins spread across a forested hillside.
